Yesterday’s travelers were adventurers in search of the extraordinary. They came by rail and horse-drawn carriage. The Canadian Pacific Railway built lodges and roads in the early 1900s to accommodate the ever increasing number of tourists. Today, as a tourist, you will be traveling via a deluxe vista-view motor coach, but many areas of the Canadian Rockies are as they were over one-hundred years ago. Day 1: Springfield, OH – Columbus, OH – Kalispell, MT – Whitefish, MT
Depart Springfield via motor coach enroute to the Columbus Airport for your flight to Kalispell, Montana, the geographic doorway to the Canadian Rockies. Spend the night in Whitefish, Montana and enjoy dinner at a local establishment. (D)
Day 2: Whitefish, MT – Banff, Alberta
Enjoy a hearty breakfast as your luggage is loaded on the coach. We cross the US/Canadian border as you enter the beautiful Canadian Rockies with many Kodak moments along the way. This afternoon, we arrive at the resort community of Banff, located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. We spend 3 unforgettable nights at your centrally located resort. Dinner is included this evening at the Resort. (B, D)
Day 3: Banff National Park – Yoho National Park – Lake Louise
Cross the Continental Divide and begin an unforgettable day of mountains, lakes and canyons. We begin with exquisite Emerald Lake, one of Canada’s most outstanding wilderness settings. Next, we travel to the “Jewel of the Rockies” Lake Louise, with its icy blue-green waters forming a perfect mirror reflection of 11,354 foot Mount Victoria and its glacier. Listen as the melodic sounds of an Alpine horn echoes across the lake. Late afternoon we return to Banff. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure exploring Banff on your own, shopping and dinner. (B)
Day 4: Athabasca Glacier – Columbia Icefield – Peyton Lake
Today travel much of the Icefield Parkway, situated between Lake Louise and Jasper, considered one of the most scenic highways in the world. See a panorama of snow-capped mountain peaks, hanging glaciers, waterfalls, canyons, and often wildlife such as moose, big-horn sheep and bear. Our coach will scale Bow Pass with a stop to see the beautiful turquoise blue Peyto Lake. Ride in a specifically designed Snow Coach on the 1000 foot thick Athabasca Glacier, part of the Columbia Icefield. Later, we return to Banff for an elegant dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Banff – Calgary – Calgary Stampede
After a hearty breakfast, we depart Banff and journey to Calgary. It is there we will experience the world-famous Calgary Stampede, a 10-day Wild West exhibition. Step through the gates of Stampede Park and walk back in time through an authentic Indian Village and stroll the streets of a recreated frontier town. Enjoy wide variety of exciting talent at the many entertainment stages, then head into the dazzling array of international exhibits and displays of western art. This evening, enjoy reserved seats for the unforgettable Chuckwagon races. Afterwards, a Las Vegas style grandstand show featuring Cirque du Soleil acrobatics and top-named entertainment. Top off the day with a 30-minute fireworks display. You will agree this is truly the “Greatest outdoor show on earth”! We overnight in Calgary. (B)
Day 6: Calgary – Head-Smashed-in-Buffalo-Jump – Whitefish, MT
Today, we travel south for a guided tour and lunch at Head-Smashed-in-Buffalo-Jump, a UNESCO World Heritage Site paying tribute to an ingenious hunting technique used by the Plains Indians for nearly 6,000 years. Later, travel through Waterton Lakes National Park enroute to the U.S. We check into one of Montana’s premier resorts – Grouse Mountain Lodge for a 2-night stay. Enjoy a fabulous dinner in the lodge’s dining room overlooking the golf course. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Whitefish, MT – Glacier National Park – Going-to-the-Sun Highway – Whitefish, Mt
Enjoy a hearty breakfast and then we travel to the heart of Glacier National Park. We board a 1930’s Red Jammer touring car for a ride on the “Going-to-the-Sun Highway”, acclaimed as one of the most beautiful roadways in the world. The 52-mile journey crosses the Continental Divide through Logan Pass at an elevation of 6,680 feet and includes the Weeping Wall and spectacular mountain vistas. The tour ends at St Mary’s where your private coach will take you back to the beautiful Grouse Mountain Lodge for your final night’s stay. Dinner included this evening at a local establishment. Day 8: Whitefish, MT – Kalispell, MT – Columbus, OH – Springfield, OH
Enjoy a final breakfast and a leisurely morning at the Resort. We will board the coach and travel a short distance to the Kalispell Airport for our flight back to Columbus. (B)
